Monica Herrera

Monica Herrera is the Director of the Nutrition, Health and Youth Development Division at the Minnesota Department of Education. The team provides training, technical assistance and resources to Minnesota’s schools, youth-serving organizations and other public entities in areas related to nutrition and health promotion, youth development and out-of-school time learning opportunities.

Prior to joining the department, Monica worked for a variety of nonprofit and state and local government entities in policy development, planning, administration, finance, and organizational development, with a special emphasis on issues that impact women and children. Her career experiences have included leading and managing statewide programs, providing training and consulting services on strategic planning, governance, teambuilding, conflict resolution, community building, collaboration, and cultural equity.

Monica is certified in both individual and multi-party mediation and holds a bachelor of science degree in family life studies and a master's degree in public policy.
