Thursday, October 24, 2019: Improving Learning by Identifying Participation Problems
Participants will explore how status interferes with student participation in mathematics, learn to identify status issues in classrooms, and work on strategies for engaging reluctant learners while also challenging high status students. We will consider how groups can improve student learning. Attendees will receive a copy of Smarter Together! Collaboration and Equity in the Elementary Math Classroom.
Tuesday, February 18, 2020: Getting Groups Together
Participants will experience different tools for supporting student learning through group interactions. We will explore the use of norms and roles and how to teach these skills to students. Attendees will receive a copy of Designing Groupwork: Strategies for the Heterogeneous Classroom.
Presenters: Both sessions will be led by Marcy B. Wood, PhD, an award-winning educator, author, and researcher who has conducted workshops across the United States and internationally for teachers from kindergarten through high school and also for university faculty. She is a co-author of Smarter Together! Collaboration and Equity in the Elementary Math Classroom, a best-selling book on group work in mathematics classrooms.

Audience: Teams from schools or districts, administrators, district curriculum leaders, teacher leaders, teachers, coaches.
Sponsor: Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MTCM) and Academic Standards and Instructional Effectiveness.
Fee: $325 per person to attend both days, $175 per person to attend only one of the two days; for each team of four attendees from a district, one administrator may attend for free. The fee for each session includes lunch, a book, and session materials.
