Stakeholder Engagement

While the U.S. Department of Education has not yet announced exactly when it will accept state plan submissions, Minnesota anticipates submitting its plan in early 2017.

When creating the plan, Minnesota will consult regularly with stakeholders. During the spring of 2016, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) will hold several topic area meetings to explore the Every Student Succeeds Act with large, diverse groups of stakeholders. In the summer of 2016, we will convene specific workgroups on key topics who will contribute significantly to the framework for Minnesota’s plan. Beginning in the summer and throughout the winter of 2016, we plan to hold regional meetings to refine its framework and inform the final draft that will be submitted in 2017.

As this process continues, additional updates and documents will be posted to this page.

See Minnesota’s timeline for ESSA implementation.

MDE is hosting meetings in April and May to share the ESSA law in 10 topic areas. Our purpose is to share and clarify the ESSA law, gain input, and better understand stakeholder priorities to inform future workgroups. Notes providing the content of each topic area meeting, as well as the presentations used, will be provided here as they become available. If you were unable to attend a meeting or would like to review a meeting’s content, these notes are meant as a reference. Feedback about ESSA can be emailed to or mailed to Michael Diedrich, Minnesota Department of Education, 1500 Highway 36 West, Roseville, MN, 55113.
