Seamless Summer Option School Year 2021-22

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has released waivers and flexibilities to increase funding, support access to meals, and balance operational needs for school food authorities (SFAs) with the goal of providing nutritious meals to students for school year (SY) 2021-22. These waivers and flexibilities will allow all SFAs to:

  • Provide meals to all students at no charge by allowing operation of the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) during SY 2021-22 school year.
  • Receive the highest Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) reimbursement rates for meals, state reimbursement of 12.5 cents per lunch, and USDA Foods entitlement allocations for meals served through SSO during the 2021-22 school year.

Resources and guidance available on this webpage are specific to operation of the SSO for SY 2021-22 only.

Note: The SFSP is not an option for schools during SY 2021-22.
