Nutrition and Wellness

Farm to Early Care and Education (ECE) provides young children with opportunities to learn about food and agriculture through hands-on activities and experience gardening from seed to plate, while supporting local farmers by buying local food. It is a natural expansion of the national farm to school movement. Farm to ECE serves a variety of early childhood care settings, including child care centers, preschool, Head Start, center-based care, preschool programs in K-12 school districts, and family child care homes. Farm to Early Care is a best practice recommendation for centers and homes participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

All early care providers and centers in Minnesota are invited to join the Minnesota Farm to Early Care Coalition. The Farm to Early Care Coalition is a statewide group of early care providers and organizations who meet virtually (via computer video call or phone) ever other month to discuss Farm to Early Care related initiatives, projects, events and resources. We also discuss shared strategies and brainstorm solutions to common barriers. All experience and skill levels are welcome. If you are interested, please contact Molly Turnquist Butala.
