As we created Minnesota’s state plan under the Every Student Succeeds Act, we heard consistently from stakeholders the desire to recognize schools and districts for success. Recognition can provide a starting point for other schools and districts looking for best practices to consider, in addition to acknowledging results that come from hard work put in by students and educators.

Stakeholders hoped this recognition would go beyond the indicators used to identify schools and districts for support. They felt recognition in other areas such as school readiness, career and college readiness, school climate, and student health and wellness, was also important.

Minnesota recognized schools for several North Star accountability indicators at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. We plan to expand recognition for success in other areas. Where possible, we will provide context and narrative to describe how schools and districts achieved their success. This information can be used to give other schools and districts ideas for ways they might add to their own success in these areas.
