Out-of-School Time Learning

Why is learning beyond the school day so important?

The Minnesota Department of Education recognizes that well-designed, high-quality programs offered to students beyond the school day and outside of the regular school year are prime opportunities for supporting the Whole Child. This approach prepares students to be career- and college-ready by ensuring that each student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.

Research shows that young people who are healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged are better learners. By working together, Minnesota schools, communities and families can equip students to lead the state’s workforce. Out-of-school programs can help provide safe, stable and nurturing learning environments that provide additional opportunities for student growth.
