Special Education Hosted Trainings and Webinars

To help support Minnesota schools during the global pandemic, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Special Education Division enlisted experts from across the nation for a series of remote presentations. We have recorded these sessions for your review and use. The insights and resources here are valuable for general educators and those serving students receiving special education services. All recordings are closed captioned and include links to accessible slide shows and other materials.

Five Practically Good Ideas for Any Reality: Clay Cook, Ph.D. of the University of Minnesota College of Education and Human Development on how to prepare for distance learning, hybrid and in-person schooling.

Returning to School During and After Crisis
: Brandi Simonson, Ph.D. of the University of Connecticut on using a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework to support students, families and educators during the transitions back to school during and following the global pandemic.

Check-in/Check-Out as a Tier 2 Support: Kevin Filter, Minnesota State University, Mankato; what does it look like and how it can be adapted during distance or hybrid learning environments.
