Becoming a Minnesota Educator

To be licensed as an educator in Minnesota you must go through and be recommended by an approved preparation program based in a college or university.  The colleges and universities provide information through their websites and advisors about admission requirements to their programs leading to licensure.

The Licensing Division is not able to provide advice about completing a college or university educator program requirement; rather, use the links below to locate, research, and contact a college or university authorized to prepare you to work as a licensed educator in Minnesota.  These programs assist individuals seeking both first-time licenses and for already licensed educators adding additional licensure fields.

January 1, 2018—Educator Licensing and Board of Teaching will merge into the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board. Get details here.
