Experiential and Work-Based Learning
Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience and then reflecting on the experience of doing. Experiential learning can include a work-based learning internship position, job shadowing a professional in a career pathway of interest, hearing a guest presenter describe his/her career pathway journey, attending a career fair, completing a service learning project, visiting a college campus—and many more experiences.
There are many different categories of student experiences that can provide opportunities to learn about career fields and occupations:
- Industry tours and guest presenters
- Job shadowing experiences
- Service learning projects
- Mentorships
- Cooperative education work experiences
- Internships
- Apprenticeships
