Developing a Shared Mission, Vision and Goals
This leadership practice sets the course of direction for the school system by identifying what it is that the system wants to accomplish (vision), as well as how it plans to do so (mission). The practice offers processes school leaders can use to engage others in crafting vision and mission statements, as well as proactive and reactive methods to contemplate if the vision and mission are being lived out each day. With a focus on equity and social justice, leaders act with assurance, exhibit resiliency, and engage teachers, staff, parents, students and community in the shared work of teaching and learning. Vision and mission should be the foundation: a driving force behind all decisions made at the school. A living vision and mission should be evidenced throughout the school community.
